Originally released in 2013 as a digital only format, Rayning's "Refraction" is a seven song album that revels in a wall of sound shoegaze/post rock motif. Layers of trance like guitar and keyboard drones swell creating a hypnotic yet calming state for the listener. Locked in loops of waving sound in lieu of drums acts in percussive manner moving the songs along at a pace in which swirling, swells of sound envelope all around the compositions. The sounds are calming yet there is also a grittiness present albeit not too intrusive or abrasive that is indicative of Rayning hailing from Detroit, MI. Channel the sounds of lovesliescrushing, Paper Armies or Former Selves as well as putting their own unique stamp on it, Rayning travels down the shoegaze road less traveled and the outcome is one that creates an overwhelming immersive and ethereal experience with results that are nothing short of breath taking. Rok Lok is ecstatic to give "Refraction" is its proper due with a physical release as cassette limited to an edition of 40 home dubbed (in real time) black cassettes with full color, numbered j-cards, and full color labels.
