It is certainly no secret that I have a soft spot for bedroom shoegaze and so it shouldn't be a surprise that Orange Aurora was a project that I feel in love with almost immediately. Eric Angal's the creative force behind Orange Aurora creates an enthralling brand of bedroom pop/shoegaze that is reminiscent of Vehicle Blues, Secret Shine, and Drop Nineteens. Some of the more expansive, ambient sprawls remind me of lovesliescrushing or the Azusa Plane. Drenched in layers of reverb, washed out vocals and a wave of melodic, yet fuzzy guitar tones reel you into a ep's worth of tunes that will lock in your attention. With the accessibility of digital recording there has been a flux of home recorded shoegaze/bedroom pop-some of it great and some of it not as such. Orange Aurora relies less on trickery and focuses more on building rich, infectious melodies and mesmerizing sense of tone, which separates him from the herd of current shoegaze "DIYers" . "Dracula Coil" is a six song ep that is packed into one C-20 black clamshell cassette home dubbed in real time and comes with hand stamped labels and full color, cover stock numbered j-cards. "Dracula Coil" is limited to an edition of 50.
